The Board have committed to a new strategic vision and this newly created position will be instrumental in achieving this.

Reporting to the CEO, the Policy Manager will work closely with the Policy Advisor and is a key member of the leadership team to support the collaboration, communication, and education of all stakeholders in the industry supply chain. The core focus of this role is to develop and implement NZ Pork's policy and issues strategies in the areas of Animal Health, Animal Welfare, Biosecurity, Food Safety and Sustainability, facilitating the growth and further development of this sector.

Key responsibilities include:

  • To positively influence and develop key external relationships with central government, regulators, farmers, industry groups and other relevant key stakeholders
  • Keeping up to date with global and domestic animal health, animal welfare, biosecurity and food safety & suitability issues/trends that will impact on the industry; and ensure NZ Pork’s compliance with statutory & legal requirements
  • Working with value chain participants (gate to plate) to influence, develop and implement policy and preparedness strategies.
  • Leading projects around key issues, reporting regularly to management and board.

The successful candidate will have credibility in the agriculture sector, extensive experience in policy management/interpretation of policy out of central government, along with relevant industry engagement involvement. You will be a good strategic thinker, articulate and confident presenting to an audience, skilled with developing key messaging and have demonstrated history establishing trusted relationships with key stakeholders.

National Industry Support Manager - NZ Pork

Reporting to the CEO, the National Industry Support Manager will be a key member of the leadership team to support the collaboration, communication, and education of all stakeholders in the industry supply chain. The core focus of this diverse and multifaceted role, is working closely with NZ commercial pig farmers to support them around a variety of key issues, facilitating the growth and further development of this sector. Key responsibilities include:

  • Provision of support to commercial farmers including advice on immigration, migrant labour, health & Safety, vocational education, general human resources, employment and recruitment advice
  • Coordination of the National Certificate Pork Production, PigCare and related ITO programmes and accreditations
  • To oversee marketing, PR and communications activity for NZ Pork. (mostly outsourced to external parties).

The successful candidate will have a natural affinity with the agriculture sector, ideally in an industry engagement related role, experienced developing relationships with key stakeholders such as farmers, ITOs, government departments and training providers. Desirable core skills should include human resources, health & safety, training facilitation/coordination, the development of key communications and a basic understanding of marketing. You will be a natural networker who enjoys helping people and building relationships, and a ‘jack of all trades’ who likes working in a small team and willing to contribute to all areas of the scope of NZ Pork's activities.

Herd Manager

Nestled in the Te Aroha hills, Rawhiti Environmental Park is certified as New Zealand’s highest welfare pork. They have the strictest standards of animal health, welfare, hygiene and cleanliness. In addition to the farm, they also run a community waste recycling programme.

The role of Herd Manager has now become available. In this role you will be responsible for managing the care and growth of weaned piglets. You will need to have the welfare of the animals in the forefront of your mind at all times and will during the course of each day be tasked with: monitoring the condition of weaners; immunise and treat as required; manage nutrient levels; and clean stock pens and runs; maintaining hygiene standards at all times.

To be successful in this role, we are specifically looking for someone who has:
• Experience working with pigs;
• A flexible approach; and able to work well as part of a small team;
• Be physically fit;
• Ideally a tertiary qualification in Agriculture or Animal Science;
• A calm and patient manner when handling animals;
• Mechanically minded - able to make minor repairs if required
• Good written and numeric skills to record farm data and breeding statistics
• A passion for providing the highest welfare focus to the animals

Gestation Manager

In this role you will be responsible for the artificial insemination (AI) of pigs and then ensuring the highest level of care during the gestation period. You will need to have the welfare of the animals in the forefront of your mind at all times and will during the course of each day be tasked with: feeding; maintaining body condition; maintaining a clean water supply; moving pigs; maintaining and defining farrowing numbers; oestrus detection and mating or use of AI. In addition you will do pregnancy testing, routine vaccinations and follow strict farm bio security controls.

To be successful in this role, we are specifically looking for someone who has:
• Experience working with pigs ideally with AI experience;
• A flexible approach; and able to work well as part of a small team;
• Be physically fit;
• Ideally a tertiary qualification in Agriculture or Animal Science;

SENIOR STOCKPERSON - PIGGERY BREEDING UNIT

Position location - 50 Te Rakehou Road, Feilding, Manawatu

Employment type - permanent full time

Ratanui Development Co. Ltd is an integrated farming unit, breeding and finishing pigs alongside lamb and beef finishing and cropping. The farm is high performing – always striving to exceed output targets through strong strategy, good governance and great teamwork.

We are seeking a Senior Stockperson to join the team in our piggery breeding unit, working with our breeding sows and new piglets. This full time, permanent position would suit someone with previous livestock experience. Pork industry or other relevant qualifications are preferred, as is qualifications or experience working with machinery.

Responsibilities include:

• Working alongside the Breeding Unit Manager to set and meet breeding and farrowing targets, and to maintain herd welfare and productivity Assist the team with the day to day running of the breeding unit piggery – including farrowing, weaning, mating and dry sow management.

• Working within a successful, motivated team on rostered shifts, including some weekend work and sole charge at times.

• Maintaining high standards of animal welfare, environmental stewardship and a proactive attitude to H&S.

Piggery General Farmhand

We are seeking an enthusiastic, hardworking individual to work with our piggery team.

The piggery is located approx. 10 minutes from Foxton and 20 minutes from Palmerston North.

This position is fulltime and the role is general farmhand. Primary duties involve mixing the feed meals and assisting the piggery manager with the day to day maintenance activities.

This position has opened up due to a long standing staff member retiring and has an immediate start.
