Piggery General Farmhand

We are seeking an enthusiastic, hardworking individual to work with our piggery team.

The piggery is located approx. 10 minutes from Foxton and 20 minutes from Palmerston North.

This position is fulltime and the role is general farmhand. Primary duties involve mixing the feed meals and assisting the piggery manager with the day to day maintenance activities.

This position has opened up due to a long standing staff member retiring and has an immediate start.

Seeking Farrowing And Weaner Stock Manager

Stanley Bros Piggery is a modern 400 Sow Farrow to Finish Piggery situated 3km north of Opunake, Taranaki.

We are seeking to employ a full time person who can help manage our farrowing and weaner unit.

This position would suit a person who has an eye for detail and likes working with piglets and young weaned pigs.

Boar Stud/GTC Team Leader (Maternity Leave FTC)

An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Team Leader with an animal husbandry or farming background to join our Gene Transfer Centre (GTC) team on a 12-month maternity leave fixed term contract (FTC). The position is located near the small township of Hororata, approximately 50km West from Christchurch in Canterbury, New Zealand.

PIC New Zealand is one of New Zealand’s leading pig production and genetics businesses with six farm units located at various sites in New Zealand. In addition, we own and operate a modern pig semen collection and processing facility that encompasses superior health, environmental control and quality management systems.

Position Requirements

As the GTC Team Leader, you must be a physically fit, hands-on and motivated self-starter with a “can do” attitude, willing to work flexible hours (including weekends and public holidays). You must possess a high level of interpersonal and computer skills as you will be charged with ensuring that the day to day operations of the facility run smoothly, efficiently and safely.

Previous experience in a swine gene transfer centre or intensive livestock facility (preferably in the swine or chicken industry with biosecurity controls) and proven supervisory or leadership skills are essential to be successful in this role. Laboratory skills will be well regarded.

All positions could be subject to a pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol testing.

Relief Class 5 Truck Driver – Burnham/Canterbury

Freshpork is a family-owned business. As New Zealand’s leading pork processor and wholesaler we process and market approximately 40% of the country’s pork and operate a speciality feed mill for supply of pig feed to South Island pork producers. We are committed to innovation, growth and development to provide fresh, high quality pork to New Zealanders and their families.
We are looking for a relief Truck Driver to cover one of our current Drivers for around three months, with potential casual work in the future of around 3 months per year. Based at our Feed mill in Burnham, you’ll be delivering pellet feed to pig farms around the Canterbury region.

You will need:

  • A class 5 licence
  • To be physically fit as you’ll be in and out of your truck filling and unloading the truck feed bins
  • Attention to detail with loading, unloading and paperwork
  • Previous biosecurity experience will be advantageous

Hours are up to 10 hours per day, commencing around 4am, Monday to Friday.

Senior Stockperson – Piggery Breeding Unit

Ratanui Development Co. Ltd is an integrated farming unit, breeding and finishing pigs alongside lamb and beef finishing and cropping. The farm is high performing – always striving to exceed output targets through strong strategy, good governance and great teamwork.

We are seeking a Senior Stockperson to join the team in our piggery breeding unit, working with our breeding sows and new piglets. This full time, permanent position would suit someone with previous livestock experience. Pork industry or other relevant qualifications are preferred, as is qualifications or experience working with machinery.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working alongside the Breeding Unit Manager to set and meet breeding and farrowing targets, and to maintain herd welfare and productivity
  • Assist the team with the day to day running of the breeding unit piggery – including farrowing, weaning, mating and dry sow management.
  • Working within a successful, motivated team on rostered shifts, including some weekend work and sole charge at times.
  • Maintaining high standards of animal welfare, environmental stewardship and a proactive attitude to H&S.
