Maintenance Technician

SunPork Group is one of Australasia’s leading agribusinesses, operating modern pig farming operations across New Zealand and Australia. Our PIC farms rely on well-maintained equipment and infrastructure to keep animals healthy and the farms running smoothly - and that’s where you come in.

We’re looking for a practical, hands-on Maintenance Technician who enjoys problem-solving, working independently and taking ownership of their sites.

This is not a production line or factory maintenance role. You’ll be out across the farms, diagnosing faults, repairing equipment and preventing breakdowns before they happen.

No two days are the same.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be responsible for maintaining and repairing buildings, plant and equipment across the farm, with a strong focus on preventative maintenance.

You’ll work on:

  • Water systems (pumps, drinkers, tanks and pipework)
  • Ventilation and climate control systems (fans and controllers)
  • Feeding systems (augers, feeders and silos)
  • Heating equipment
  • Effluent and waste systems
  • Fencing, gates and general farm infrastructure.

Other parts of the role include:

  • Troubleshooting faults and carrying out repairs
  • Responding to breakdowns and alarms when required
  • Routine inspections to prevent failures
  • Maintaining maintenance schedules and records
  • Monitoring spare parts and supplies
  • Coordinating and supervising contractors when needed
  • Supporting farm staff with safe equipment use.

Safety & Biosecurity

Our farms operate under strict safety and biosecurity requirements. You’ll follow site procedures, identify hazards and ensure maintenance work does not compromise animal welfare or farm operations.

What we’re looking for

Essential:

  • Trade qualification (mechanical, engineering, maintenance or similar)
  • 5 years’ experience in a maintenance technician position, preferably within a farming environment
  • Hands-on repair and fault-finding skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage your own workload
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Full driver's licence.

 Highly regarded:

  • Experience with pumps, motors, augers or automated systems
  • Agricultural, irrigation or rural maintenance experience
  • Welding or fabrication skills
  • Electrical troubleshooting experience.

Why join SunPork?

  • Permanent, secure employment
  • Supportive team and management
  • Variety in day-to-day work
  • Modern farming operation
  • Opportunity to take ownership of the maintenance program
  • Training and development opportunities.

This role suits someone who likes practical work, enjoys fixing problems and takes pride in keeping equipment and facilities running properly.

Additional Information

All positions may be subject to drug and alcohol testing, pre-employment medical checks, and/or police background checks.

Eligibility

Applicants must have New Zealand residency or a valid New Zealand work visa.

To apply please submit your CV and contact details of at least two referees.
