Patoa Farms in Hawarden is looking for people to work with our pigs either full or part time.
Our farm works on a free-farming system which means that breeding stock and piglets live outside all year round. After weaning, pigs are then moved into eco barns (open ended barns) until they are ready for market. We are SPCA and PigCare certified.
As a stockperson you would work across all areas of the farm and must enjoy working in the outdoors in all-weathers plus both like and be confident around animals.
Day to day tasks include, shed checks, monitoring feed, water, and animal health. Cleaning out and water blasting sheds, driving various machines (once trained), handling pigs of all ages and working with a variety of humans from all walks of life.
We offer full training including on farm NZQA standards if desired. There are opportunities to grow and learn a lot. The farm breeds all its own pigs and grows them for sale, so you will learn the full cycle. Opportunities to specialise (AI/fertility, nutrition etc) are available over time. Clearly achievable goals and pay structures are in place.
Due to our size, we can offer both full and part time work. If you are looking for a steady part-time role during school hours or to suit your retirement, we would love to talk to you.
You need to be fit and active, with a positive attitude. All PPE is provided, and full training is given. If you do have stock experience this will be reflected in the starting rate.
For more information about the farm, visit our website:http://www.patoafarms.co.nz.
Applicants for this position must be NZ residents or have a valid NZ work visa (or be able to get one).
Full time workers must be prepared to work weekends (1 in 3 paid at time and a half). Full time workers start no earlier than 5am and no later than 7.30am. Part time hours are variable, but we do not have any late afternoon or evening shifts.
This is a drive-in position but if you are keen to move to the region we may be able to offer temporary accommodation.
Please email Bethan with a brief CV and details of what you are looking for.
