An opportunity has arise for a position within our piggery based in both Aylesbury and Oxford, in Canterbury. We are looking for a full time Senior Stockperson for our Farrowing unit.
The position runs an 11 day on 3 day off roster.
The live-in position offers 2 bedroom shared accommodation, shared with one other person.
◾ To manage your area of the farm on a day to day basis, informing the manager of any problems
◾ To assist the manager with increasing production by meeting targets and budgets
◾ To have an involved role in technical information such as nutrition, breeding and genetics, quota management and animal health
◾ To ensure you are compliant and familiar with all aspects of the NZ Animal Welfare Code (pigs)
◾ To maintain required herd records efficiently and accurately, such as EliteHerd and all medicine books
◾ To achieve reliable and consistent results in all aspects of the farm
◾ To meet all necessary biosecurity standards and actively participate in meeting these standards
◾ To comply with Health & Safety regulations and actively participate in monitoring all existing standards and reporting new hazards
◾ To maintain the farm to a high standard of cleanliness and ensure it is always kept tidy
◾ To communicate with the manager any concerns, problems or issues about anything related to the farm
◾ To participate in furthering your knowledge through both formal and informal training
◾ To ensure all animals in your area are healthy or have been attended to as per farm protocol
◾ To ensure adequate supply of clean drinking water and feed daily to all pigs
◾ To ensure maintenance is carried out in a timely manner on all equipment in your area
◾ To work with other members of staff in a professional manner, and help in other areas where and when required.
◾ Ensure piglets get adequate time to nurse and get sufficient colostrum
◾ Ensure piglets are fostered correctly as soon as is appropriate after farrowing, as per fostering protocols
◾ Ensure all pens are adjusted appropriately according to sow size pre farrowing, and are well maintained
◾ Ensuring correct ventilation and monitoring this daily
◾ Ensure piglets are processed correctly within the correct timeframe, and treated when necessary as per farm protocol
◾ Feeding is done accurately pre and post farrowing
◾ Ensuring sows and gilts are supervised during farrowing and assisting them when required
◾ Assisting with making culling decisions
◾ Assisting to ensure farrowing and weaning data is kept up to date and accurate on EliteHerd
◾ Accurately recording all farrowing and weaning information in the appropriate manner.
Candidates with previous piggery experience are required. Applicants are required to provide good references as well as a CV with current, correct and complete work history.
All suitable applicants must show a good work ethic, have no previous criminal history, and agree to a pre-employment drug test and have at least a restricted drivers licence. Accommodation is provided but pets as well as smoking in the home or workplace is not allowed.
